Film Discussion: Sweetheart

Tiffany and Nicole Season 2 Episode 3

Happy Valentine's Day, Pod People! What better way to celebrate a day dedicated to L-O-V-E than to watch a deserted-island-survival-creature-feature with some gaslighting thrown in for good measure? That's right, today on the pod we're discussing the film Sweetheart, directed by J.D. Dillard and featuring a stellar performance by Kiersey Clemons. We discuss disaster horror, some truly stunning shots eked out in this lower-budget film, good-for-her narratives, microagressions enacted against people of color, and more!

Sweetheart is available to rent from Amazon Prime, YouTube, Apple TV, and Google Play Movies.

Also, it's Black History Month here in the U.S. At HITM, we firmly believe we should all be engaging with, enjoying, and discussing works by Black creators year-round, but we also know February is a time when folks are intentional with seeking out films, books, and other media from Black artists, and we're happy to celebrate it! Do yourself a favor and find something diverse to watch, read, and enjoy this month - and every other month of the year.
